Watch The Birdie

One morning a couple of weeks ago I was in the kitchen and suddenly became                             aware of a terrific noise coming from outside.
I opened the back door to see a tall tree at the end of a neighbour's garden was chock full of birds all atwitter.
G was home and I called to him so he could share in seeing and hearing this spectacle as I dashed back inside for my camera.
Unfortunately the battery was dead and so no photos could be taken, but we enjoyed watching them.
Then on Monday as I was pottering around at home I heard the same noise and glanced out of the window.
The birds were back.
Thankfully the battery in the camera was fully charged.
They settled themselves all over the branches and then a few at a time would fly off, circle around and then land again.
And my goodness did they make some noise whilst they were about it.

Then as suddenly as they arrived the sound of their chatter changed and they were all off.
A pretty rubbish photo of a portion of them is all I managed to snap, but it gives you an idea of how many there were.

  1. They must like that tree for some reason. Birds certainly are noisy when there's lots of them all together.

  4. Now that is a lot of birds.
They obviously loved that tree as they were passing through to somewhere ... I wonder where!

    All the best Jan

  5. We had 1000 starlings roosting in a tree all night back at the old place - the noise was awful, couldn't sleep a wink. We went and frightened them off the next evening and they went back to the marshes where they should have been. Fantastic to watch their sky patterns but not so good company overnight

  6. We've had hundreds of Starlings collecting on telegraph wires & the roof of a house down the road. They are getting ready to migrate to warmer climes & leave my bird table on which they've gorged themselves alone ! I do like watching the baby Starlings grow up. There is a nest in next door's roof eves every year.
It's been wonderful to watch the Geese arriving for the winter here.

  8. Starlings are so noisy! They're a declining species that I don't as a rule see near me but over the last few years there's been a very small flock that I've seen close to home, which does seem to be growing a little each year. I like starlings (their adult colours are amazing in the right light)but I don't like their general rowdiness and the noise they make!

  10. OOoh, that is so cool! My neighbour used to have this immense, grand old pear tree which was a magnet to an equivalent number of birds, It was a sad day when she chopped it down!
